Hungerford Bowls Club President Alan Bartter receives the Godwin Cup from Newbury Bowls Captain Mike Collins.- 24th August 2025
On Sunday, 24th August, the men’s team travelled to Newbury Bowls Club for the 2nd leg of the competition for the Godwin Cup.
After the 1st leg, played at home, Hungerford were trailing by 4 shots but after a stunning comeback they won the 2nd leg by 80 shots to 47 so won by 33 shots overall.
Club President Alan Bartter received the trophy from Newbury Captain Mike Collins. The Godwin Cup is played for every year with one match at home and one away at Newbury.

On Sunday 17th August 18 players from Hungerford Bowls Club travelled to St Mary Bourne Bowls Club to compete for the R & J Broad Trophy. The trophy is competed for each year by Hungerford and St. Mary Bourne Bowls clubs and next year the match will be hosted by Hungerford.
We played 18 ends in very sunny and hot weather and after a lovely afternoon we ended the match winning by 4 shots. Hungerford had 95 shots overall and St Mary Bourne 91.

After the game we enjoyed a lovely tea and welcome drink with all the players.
The final matches have been played in the Kennet League LV West and the Hungerford Men (Over 55) team have come second. This means promotion to the 1st Division next season.
In true end-of-season drama the team were sitting in third place. They had a couple of high scoring ends, in their final game, so managed to win and now they are in the 1st division where the teams are at the top of their game.
Falkland Islands Bowling team visit Hungerford Bowling Club - 4th July 2025
The Hungerford Bowling Club had a lovely game against the Falklands Bowls Team and they presented us with a shield and a card to say thank you for our hospitality and allowing them some valuable practice on grass. We of course wished them well as they travel to Orkney to compete in the Island Games 2025

Bowls has been included in previous Island Games but has been played indoors. This year the competition will be played outdoors on real grass! The Falkland team do not have a bowling green so are having a week of training at the Ramsbury and Aldbourne Bowls Club
24 Member Islands belong to the International Island Games Association. They are:
Orkney, Shetland, Saint Helena, Faroe Islands, Ynys Mon, Menorca, Saaremaa, Hitra, Aland, Alderney, Bermuda, Gozo, Greenland, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Froya, Gibraltar, Sark, Gotland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Isle of Wight, Western Isles and Guernsey.
Did you know that the Bowling Club hold club Roll Ups three times a week? The Monday evening session was added for those who cannot make the afternoon sessions.
Roll Ups are for all Bowling members and for Indoor Sports and Tennis members who would like to try bowling. You can use them as practice sessions and there will be someone present to help you with your bowling.
Monday Evening between 6.15 and 8pm
Tuesday Afternoon between 2 and 4pm
Friday Afternoon between 2 and 4pm
Dress is casual, but with suitable bowls shoes.

The Tennis section is affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association and so members get LTA benefits such as entry into the ballot for Wimbledon tickets. Click here for more details.
Subscriptions run from 1st April 2025 to 31st March 2026. However if you join, or renew, after 1st January and before 31st March and pay the coming year’s rate your membership will not expire until the end of the following March giving you up to fifteen months membership.
